The Bewomaning Lectures

The Bewomaning Lectures are a combination of lecture, literary reading and hands-on interactivity that allow women to assume their personal power and release the blockages to their fulfillment. Each lecture is based on one chapter of Maria Mar's inspirational novel, Bewomaning: Become the protagonist of your own life adventure. Each chapter in the novel responds to one of the stages of the The Bewomaning Experienceä ~a Female Wisdom-based system for female empowerment and fulfillment created by PBS-featured artist and shaman Maria Mar.

In Maria's 10 years of experience in arts-in-education and her more than 20 years engaging audiences, she has come to understand that the more the audience enjoys the experience, the better they learn and retain the knowledge. In The Bewomaning Lecture Series, Maria Mar offers an interactive experience to help women walk through the stages of female individuation gathered in the inspirational novel, Bewomaning: Become the protagonist of your own life adventure. Each Bewomaning Lecture includes two or more of these elements, depending on time and content:

Reading from a chapter in the novel
Body-mind exercises

First Level: The Awakening Awakening, for a woman, is a creative, challenging process in which she takes back her life.

First Level: The Awakening

The archetype of Sleeping Beauty often refers to a woman before she awakens to her own awesome power to change her life and her world. Awakening, for a woman, is a creative, challenging process in which she takes back her life. In order to begin her individuation, self-transformation and leadership process, a woman needs to:

assume her right to occupy time and space in her own life,
develop unconditional self-love and self-esteem.
develop self-intimacy, so that she knows her strengths and heals her weaknesses,
develop a vision of what she wants her life to be and what her life's purpose is.

LECTURE NO. 1

The Dreamlife Vision: A woman must stop her frantic doing, working and caretaking and still her life, entering into a quiet dialogue with her soul. A woman needs to make quality time to remember who she truly is, what she truly wants and what is her Soul's purpose and Personal Dream. This self-cultivation is the Essence that gives her life a genuine direction. Maria Mar reads the first chapter of her Bewomaning novel, and guides women through a relaxing, inspiring journey to find their Dreamlife Vision and their Service Vision. READ MORE.

LECTURE NO. 2

The Mother: A woman needs to mother herself. She needs to heal her mothering instinct, if it is wounded. She needs to heal her Inner Mother, if she assimilated models of mothering that focus on others, leaving her out of her own love equation. A woman needs to find pockets of time in which she cares for her own health and wellbeing, and in which she pampers and supports herself. A woman must learn to love herself unconditionally. Maria Mar reads the second chapter of her Bewomaning novel, and guides women through a soul-nurturing, healing journey to discover the Inner Children who may be afraid or feel abandoned within them. She helps them summon their Elemental Mother to awaken their their Inner Mother, so that they can mother themselves before, during and after taking care of others.

LECTURE NO. 3

The Metamorphosis: A woman needs to turn her attention towards herself, taking the Inward Journey. Like a butterfly, she grows a cocoon inside which she discover herself and goes through the Inscapes of her Female Being. In this process, a woman develops her self-esteem, cultivates self-knowledge and creates the conditions to manifest her dreams. Maria Mar reads the third chapter of her Bewomaning novel, and guides women in a self-intimacy journey that allows them to look at their emotional wounds and find out what Personal Power lies within them.

Second Level: The Shapeshifter

A woman spends half of her life shifting her natural shape to please, be accepted, be loved and help others. Whether this "shape" is her own passion, her talents or her service to the world, The Shapeshifter level helps her to take back the natural shape she has forsaken. In order to reclaim her original nature, a woman needs to:

Ignite the process of Remembrance, which means, both remembering her original nature and talents, and gathering the disperse members of her being.
Track down, seize and transform the Inner Enemies of her psyche and release the learned self-sabotage MOs that steal her power and her dream.

LECTURE NO. 4

The Weave of Self: A woman needs to reclaim the fragments of her being that were scattered during the Domestication Process. These are pieces of her psyche, talents and personality that were not accepted or that may have been stolen through trauma, violence, abuse or neglect. These fragmentation makes it hard for a woman to get her act together. Maria Mar teaches unique, powerful knowledge and tools that allows a woman to understand how to transform her past, reclaim her Essence and make free, responsible choices in the present. Maria Mar reads the fourth chapter of her Bewomaning novel, and guides women in the recognition of the Three Threads of their Existence: Essence, Heritage and Becoming. She helps them paint a Weave of Self that honors these three threads.

LECTURE NO. 5

Dancing with the Shadow: The Shadow is a fear-based defensive self that humans develop as a defense strategy. It can best be seen as an Inner Enemy that pretends to be your ally. It sabotages human fulfillment, happiness, relationships and evolution. It weakens self-esteem and destroys creativity. Maria Mar teaches women how to detach from the Shadows that keep them in the past or attached to negative perceptions. She helps them track down their own Shadows. She shows audiences how shadows are created and how to use them as allies in their empowerment. Maria Mar reads the fifth chapter of her Bewomaning novel, and introduces the concept of the Shadow or Inner Enemy. Third Level: The Magician

Magic has been defined as a change of perception that transforms the universe right in front of our eyes. Examples of magical experiences are revelation and insight. Once a woman has strengthened her Core Self and released the learned limits that imprison her perception, her universe begins to shift. The Magician is the level in which a woman prepares and accepts the new life she is creating with her free choices. In order to enter a new universe, a woman needs to:

Learn to allow, receive, nurture and listen to new influences, knowledge, allies and perceptions that can help her create and attract new orbits and realities.
Reconstruct her inner government, which Maria Mar calls The Architecture of the Sacred Self.

LECTURE NO. 6

Cultivate the Art of Receptivity: A woman needs to open an emotional space within herself to RECEIVE the new life she is searching. If she insists in making it happen, struggling to get it, and controlling all the details, she will fail ~not because she cannot make it happen, but because she will not ALLOW it to happen. Receptivity is one of the key Female Powers. Like emotions, soul and intuition, it has been devalued and misunderstood as passivity and powerlessness in our patriarchal society. Maria Mar reads the sixth chapter of her Bewomaning novel, and helps women reclaim the Art of Receptivity, a key alchemical catalyst in manifesting their Personal Dream. She offers body-mind exercises to examine issues of control, resistance, defensiveness and habit-choices to help women begin to expand their Field of Perception and to dismantle the Wall of Expectations that keeps them trapped in a limited world.

LECTURE NO. 7

Reconstruct the Architecture of your Sacred Self: During the Domestication Process individuals are often divided. The psyche and the personality grow outer layers, like an onion. These layers form a mask, the Mask of Self, that hides their true self and their true nature. During this Female Power Alchemy, Maria Mar guides women in the discovery of the Architecture of the Sacred Self. This allows them to discover their Core Self, and release what they don't want from their lives, opening spaces to the Dream that they already ARE. Maria Mar reads the seventh chapter of her Bewomaning novel, and guides women in recognizing the difference between their Essence, their Inner Circle and their Outer Circle, so that they can distinguish between their organic dreams and qualities and the internalized critiques and expectations of others. Finally, she helps audiences learn to understand situations, problems and people as Sacred Mirrors for their own development.

A Woman of Power is a woman living fully in the present, centered in her own unique Essence and free to be, do, have and share all that she is. A Woman of Power knows the value of who she is and what she gives. She is a diva in the highest sense of the word: an embodiment of the Goddess or the Female Face of Power. This stage of the Bewomaning Lectures guides women to assume their power, speak from their voice of authority and become potent leaders in a social transformation that begins and evolves from within. In order to assume her power, a woman needs to:

Release guilt, shame and invisibility, stop catering to false definitions of humility and express her unique magnificence.
Brand her services, business and persona from the inside out, expressing her true colors.
Achieve inner balance between her male skills and her female gifts.
Build her Service Vision upon blueprints that guarantee her integrity, fulfillment and affluence.

LECTURE NO. 8

Embrace the humility of the Peacock: Bewomaning does not teach women to be selfless or humble as a means to spiritual development. While men often need to learn this art, women, in general, have suffered enough humility and selflessness for centuries! The Bewomaning Experienceä helps women give themselves permission to reclaim their uniqueness and beauty and to spread the radiance of their Soul in everything they do. Maria Mar reads the eight chapter of her Bewomaning novel, and helps women to shine in all your colors! Experimenting with colors, posture, energy, voice and self-expression, Maria helps women to be proud of their gifts and make them visible to the world. Embrace the humility of the Peacock!

LECTURE NO. 9

Open your wings and fly! As a woman comes into her power she finds her own way to express her personal gifts and creative talents. She makes her uniqueness stand out in her daily life through creative projects and actions. She cultivates her skills and talents through continued learning. In short, she does the things she dreams of doing. A Woman of Power cultivates the goodness and beauty within, so that she is at all times the best she can be and do. Maria Mar reads the ninth chapter of her Bewomaning novel, and guides your audiences to a series of self-assessment questions designed to help them see and believe in the unique life and service vision that comes from who they are.

LECTURE NO. 10

Perform your Marriage of Power: In this lecture Maria Mar helps women discover their Male Shield, or Inner Male. She guides them in discovering the positive aspects of male attributes and to cleanse them from the distortions of the patriarchal domestication. When a woman is able to marry her Female Shield and Male Shield within herself, she is wholesome. She is able to BOTH, give and receive. She balances creativity with skills, imagination with know-how. This balance allows her to manifest her Dreams in the material world. Maria Mar reads the first chapter of her Bewomaning novel, and guides women in examining the Male Shield and their Female Shield. Women (and men) learn to observe how they are out of balance, and how this is a reflection of our society. LECTURE NO. 11

Build your House of Prosperity: A Woman of Power is a protagonist in life. She is her own boss. She is her Dream. At this point, Maria Mar guides women to articulate a clear Service Vision that honors their Dreamlife Vision. Women build the blueprints of this Service Vision in a structure that nurtures, gathers, expresses and manifests their unique talents and gifts. This structure is their House of Prosperity. This is a life design that allows a woman to use her energy wisely and make sure that it is recycled back to her in the form of money, recognition, visibility, benefits and wellbeing. Maria Mar reads the last chapter of her Bewomaning novel, and guides women through developing the blueprints for their House of Prosperity. This is a basic plan answering key questions that allow a woman to initiate her Service Vision. This is especially good for beginning entrepreneurs, as well as for women seeking to create alternative sources of income or structures to service the world.
