Corazon Tierra

Unraveling Absence

by Corazon Tierra

Corazon Tierra sings, dancing in spirals as she invokes the energy of Mother Earth. As the Earth herself becomes presence in her substantial movements, Corazon begins a journey to the past through her memories of anorexia.

Unraveling from her center image, the Earth Goddess, she sculpts in the space the different moments in which the self becomes scattered and invisible. She becomes a little girl in the instant of losing joy. Afraid of becoming fat and hungry for her father’s attention, she compresses her growth into an armor.

Incarnating the anorexic body, she visits the place of the compulsive teenager who starves herself while swallowing her anger and pain. When almost disappeared, Corazon throws herself to the world trapped inside the anorexic body. Moving inside the pain, crying old tears, giving way to her anger, removing the nails that grasped her grace, Corazon unravels herself back to her presence.

Merging dance, theater, poetry, song and music, Corazon weaves an exquisite piece that reveals her journey from an anorexic girl to a woman who reclaims her inner Goddess. She incorporates elements of Flamenco, African and Afro-Caribbean dance and combines them with the movements of the energies, forces and emotions she invokes in the journey. The result is a performance in which silence, sound, voice and movement are beautifully concentrated, creating enchantment.

Length: 20 minutes

This piece is ideal to present as part of a conference or festival. It can be combined with Corazón's lecture Almost Disappearing: Reclaiming the Territory of my Body or included in an introductory workshop of MoonBody.
